Maze // Gordan Ramsey

Maze has an exciting menu encompassing the traditional French cuisine with an Asian influence in tasting sized dishes, allowing the diners to sample an array of flavours and textures. We recently went for a spot of lunch at Gordan Ramsey’s Maze in Grosvenor Square and went for their exciting lunch bites menu; four courses for £25. Choosing from a range of savoury and sweet dishes I opted for the steamed sea bream to start with brussel sprouts, enoki mushrooms, ginger and dashi which gave a very fragrant light dish followed by the pork dumplings in an aromatic mushroom broth which really flared the Asian fusion influence. I finished my savoury dishes with the braised beef feather blade accompanied with a pomme puree which was divine, melt in the mouth beef with a rich pomme puree with an exciting twist from the togarashi spice gave a traditional dish an exciting contemporary touch. My sweet followed; a gorgeous parfait with a very festive clove ice cream got me very excited for the afternoon of Christmas shopping. This four course menu for £25 is very much worth it, with generous sized tasting dishes and an extensive cocktail and wine list it’s ideal for a lunch out with girls or treating your partner to a little fine dining.

Hairy Dieters

The fabulous Hairy Bikers, Simon King and Dave Myers embark on a new journey and weight loss campaign; Hairy Dieters. In this series they have accepted their overindulgence over the years and are determined to ‘still love their food and lose weight’. Their aim to reinvent the classic dishes they love, making them big on flavour but low in calories. With the power of group motivation, they have joined forces with a group of similarly rotund foodies to help test out the bikers recipes.

So with their great tasting food and smart cooking, I am looking forward to seeing more of this series and perhaps stealing some of the lovely recipes. The series started on Thursday where the Hairy Bikers began to eat themselves slim in a bid to lose two and a half stone in three months.

I really want to host another exhibition or art fair in the near future, or perhaps a christmas fair?

I really want to host another exhibition or art fair in the near future, or perhaps a christmas fair? With a range of artists, zine makers, jewellers, independent clothing companies, cake makers and perhaps even some cocktails thrown in there? I think it would be a great opportunity for local creatives to meet and show what they do.

Modern Day Willy Wonka

We stumbled across a fabulous ice cream shop in Barcelona, in the Barceloneta area. Vioko, they make the most irresistible ice cream, blended with western tradition of gelato enriched with new vision and perspective of other worlds, I’ve never tasted anything quite like it. The atmosphere, products and attention to detail is impeccable. It felt like we were walking into modern day Willy Wonka factory, it was truly amazing the smells were divine; and from not only their exquisite ice creams they also have an amazing range of sweets, cakes and chocolates and the design of the shop itself, was stunning, I really do hope they come to the UK, I know I would definitely want to see a franchise over here, maybe I could run it? Mmmmm Heaven.

Healthy Vodka?

‘Farm to glass’, that is how FAIR refers to their new collection of fair trade organic spirits; a quinoa vodka, coffee liqueur and a goji liqueur. FAIR vodka is the first quinoa based spirit, produced with distillers in France and certified organic grain is grown by small farms in the Bolivian Altiplano. Quinoa is famous for its amino acid content as it contains all the amino acids needed for humans to build protein. Quinoa is also packed full of magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron and phosphorous as well as B vitamins, all in this vodka, sounds like it can count as one of our five a day.

Lunchtime Grazer at the Alba

The Alba restaurant is situated on the Wharf, housed in a completely refurbished lifeboat house on the harbour front of St Ives. The restaurant boasts outstanding panoramic views of St Ives bay coastline and beyond. Alba is a smart seafood restaurant, well established now; going into its tenth year, and renowned for its contemporary menu
specialising in local produce, their dishes are produced from line caught fish and seasonal vegetables.
On their lunch menu for this season they have a beautiful selection of small grazing plates of modern tapas with a vast selection of meat, fish and vegetarian options. Recommended three savoury plates per person, we ordered a mix of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, ranging from the Morrocan spiced cauliflower beignets with a cucumber and mint yoghurt and micro coriander, Cornish Deli Farm Charcuterie board – which included some beautiful meats; black olive salami, fennel salami, Honey Coppa served with a celeriac remoulade, olives, cornichons and whole grain mustard that worked so well together. Followed also by their succulent pork and fennel meatballs and we couldn’t miss out on the cornish fish, trying their steamed cornish mussels and the cornish crab and cockle cakes served with a spiced tomato chutney that complemented the dish very well.
Recommended by The Good Food Guide, Michelin Guide and Britain’s Finest, the Alba restaurant is undoubtedly a restaurant worth visiting in Cornwall with a truly delectable contemporary menu and exceptional service.
